The yellow-orange powder is well known for its properties. Turmeric has a unique place in Indian culture and it is considered to be an auspicious and sacred ingredient. According to the Hindu culture, when a couple is getting married, the groom is tying a thread with dried turmeric and turmeric paste around the neck.  This tradition is similar to the tradition of exchange of wedding rings in the western culture. This tradition shows that the bride is now capable of undertaking all the household duties of the house as the new bride. On the other hand, it depicts the pureness and the prosperity of the wedding and the new bride to the household. If you fond of Indian food, the yellow color in Indian food comes from the turmeric powder because turmeric is a vital element in Indian cuisine. Not only in Indian cuisine, it is used in most of Asian cuisine including Chinese cuisine as well. Not only this, but also, turmeric has a unique phase in Asian indigenous medicine and in Asian beauty culture.  “Curcuma longa” which is the scientific name of this golden powder is similar to ginger. It has flowers and a rhizome where rhizome is the root in which we use to make the powder. Usage of turmeric was initiated in India about 4000 years go and eventually spread throughout China, East Africa, West Africa and Jamaica. Marco Polo described turmeric as a spice which is similar to saffron.

Turmeric is this special because of its ingredient called “curcumin” and its anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin is known to be a famous component with “antioxidants”. Not only this, turmeric has its own properties and because of these properties it is used in cuisine, beauty culture and medicine, it is used to dye cloths, used as a pain relief ingredient which is good to relief pain and it is recommended by doctors to relief pain occurred due to arthritis, recent studies have revealed that, turmeric is used as a remedy to release toxins in the liver and if we are taking strong drugs for some diseases such as diabetes, turmeric is the best solution to remove all the unwanted substances from liver, turmeric reduce the risk of occurring cancer, turmeric help to maintain a healthy digestive system and it is good in good digestion and good bowel control because it has anti-inflammatory properties. When considering turmeric and the skin, the two has a strong bond. It is used throughout decades as a beauty agent. Turmeric has properties to heal wound and scars. Turmeric has antiseptic qualities means it has the ability to prevent bacterial growth on the skin.  Because of these antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities of turmeric, the scars and wounds can be quickly removed. Turmeric has properties to help the skin to create new and healthy tissues while stimulating the collagen production. Because of these, wounds and scars would be eliminated easily. Mixing turmeric powder with coconut oil and applying it on skin will quickly remove all the scars and will heal the wounds. Because of the curcuminoid properties of turmeric, it will protect the skin from free radical damage. Because of curcuminoid’s antioxidant properties and new healthy cell formation properties, it helps to stop skin getting aging and promotes formation of new healthy skin and this will promotes skin’s rejuvenating facilities and avoids wrinkles. Our skin naturally generate oil to prevent the skin from dryness. Because of turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidants in curcumin in turmeric, it avoids dryness of the skin. If you suffer from skin dryness due to winter and some medical concerns, apply some turmeric powder with coconut oil or some milk. It will avoid skin flake outs. Stretch marks are the most difficult skin conditions faced by any individual. Due to pregnancy or if you losing weight or gaining weight these stretch marks are considered to be a normal condition. Turmeric has special properties to avoid stretch marks. Applying turmeric mixing with aloe-vera in the effected area will shade out the stretch marks. The most important benefit of turmeric is, it helps to bright the skin. Turmeric has amazing properties to light the skin by two or three shades because of its special ingredient “curcumin”. Applying turmeric on face by mixing the powder with rose water and yoghurt will help to give a natural brightness to the skin. This remedy has to be done two or three times a week on continuous basis to give a natural even out skin tone while removing the tanned and pimple scars. If you have excess oil, turmeric turns out to be the best remedy for that. Turmeric has special properties to control oil and bacteria formation on the skin. Applying turmeric powder with some sandalwood powder, mixing it with rose water is the best solution for acnes and redness of the skin. If you need to exfoliate the skin you can use turmeric powder with oatmeal to remove all the dead skin. Not only for these, but also turmeric is a good practice to prevent from skin cancers and vitiligo.

When applying turmeric, it is good to consider whether you are allergic to turmeric. Some people are prone to allergies because of turmeric. If you have a white skin it is good to add a pinch or very small amount of turmeric to the turmeric paste, because the yellow color in turmeric gives yellowish stain on the face. If you are tan in color there is no problem of applying turmeric because it will give a natural glow to the face because of the natural yellowish color. On the other hand, try to get a good turmeric product which are prepared using fresh turmeric or try to get a product with good brand name. If you are unable to apply these packs on a continuous basis, there are good products manufactured as creams, pills or powders to apply and drink to give the best results.
