Skin whitening, skin lightening and skin brightening are totally different concepts that provides different effects to the skin. Skin whitening is a result of applying bleaching to the skin in the form of creams, serum and body wash etc. It makes the skin whitening and this is not good and full of side effects. It is true that there are natural skin whitening ingredients but still people, mostly in Asian countries tend to use skin whitening to gain results quickly and to make the skin fairer in ten or more times than the natural skin shade. Hydroquinone and mercury are the main ingredients in skin bleaching creams and they are the most dangerous ingredients to the skin. Skin lightening is the complete opposite of skin whitening. Excess melanin production as a result of the exposure to sunlight (hyperpigmentation), acne scars, dark spots, dark patches occurred in the certain areas on the skin, especially in the forehead, nose, chin and upper lips due to hormonal changes and darkness occurred in the skin due to aging may change the skin color. Skin lightening comes in this regard to even out the skin tone while avoiding all the dark patches and skin discoloration without bleaching the skin. Skin glowing is the way to improve the natural radiance and vibrance of the skin and skin glowing is a vital component in skin care routine and skin lightening and skin glowing are healthy and natural but skin whitening is not good for the skin and will lead to long term effects such as skin cancers. 

  • CITROUS EXTRACTS FROM LEMON

In 100g of lemon juice, it contains 53% of vitamin C and it is a good solution to reduce melanin production in the skin. Exposure to ultraviolet rays, hormonal changes cause to occur pigmentations and vitamin C in lemon will avoid hyperpigmentation. Lemon is rich in citric acid which is considered to be a mild and natural bleaching agent that has the capability of brighten and give a natural glow to the skin. Not only this, citric acid and vitamin C in lemon will surely help in collagen production while making the skin healthy within inside. Orange peel powder can also be used to lighten the skin. Applying lemon peel powder on the face by mixing with milk and few drops of lemon juice will give magnificent benefits.

  • KOJIC ACID

Because of the benefits embedded in kojic acid, now the many products in beauty culture tends to include this blessed ingredient into their beauty products. Now kojic acid is inclusive in face creams, sun blocks, body washes, moisturizing lotions, serums and even in soaps. This amazing ingredient is a byproduct of food industry which is made in the process of soy sauce production, sake etc. and this is made from a fungus. Tyrosine is an amino acid that is responsible in melanin production and Tyrosine is available in Kojic acid. Because of this ingredient, Kojic acid has the possibility of controlling the melanin production and thereby it will help in skin lightening. 

  • MULBERRY EXTRACTS

Mulberry extracts are rich in vitamin A, C, E, tyrosinase and riboflavin. Tyrosinase which is considered to be an active ingredient in mulberry extracts help to reduce the melanin production in the skin.  As a result of all the other vitamin composition in mulberry extracts helps to avoid dark spots occurred due to acnes and aging, helps for skin brightening, act as a natural skin shield from harmful UV rays, helps to increase cell turnover, increase in skin elasticity etc. are some of the other benefits of mulberry extracts.

  • FOOD INTAKE AND NATURAL GLUTATHIONE 

Glutathione is used to increase the skin color and a natural ingredient that is already available inside the body and helps to maintain the skin color. When the amount of glutathione is high the melanin production become reduced and when the amount of glutathione is low the melanin production become increased. Therefore, now people tend to take glutathione from outside such as pills and injections to make their skin lighter and fairer. But the repercussions of these pills are high. Therefore, we can intake glutathione inside the body using natural food items such as spinach, broccoli, avocados, onion, garlic and asparagus. 

  • BEARBERRY EXTRACTS 

Hydroquinone is a bleaching ingredient that is used to promote skin lightening while avoiding hyper pigmentation in the skin that occurred due to excessive exposure to the sun, dark spots occurred in the skin due to acne scars and skin aging. Though this ingredient has the capability of reducing dark spots and promote skin lightening, usage of this chemical on the face has to be limited only to 2% because the excessive usage of hydroquinone is not good for the skin and may cause to have skin irritations. But the bearberry extract that is extracted from bearberry plant has natural hydroquinone in it. This natural composition is still giving good results as it is given by chemical hydroquinone while giving additional benefits such as UV protection and premature ageing.

Other than what is mentioned in the above, azelaic acid which is used to treat acnes, glycolic acid (which is a good combination of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) helps in skin discoloration) and Indian gooseberries (which is rich in emblica extracts, vitamin C, antioxidants and antimicrobial properties helps to promote skin lightening) are doing a big favor in skin lightening process.
