Cinnamomum verum” is the scientific name of cinnamon. This is a very flavorful and fragrant spice. Origin of cinnamon is known to be Sri Lanka which was earlier called as Ceylon. Cinnamon is extracted from the bark of the cinnamon tree. Stem of the cinnamon tree will be dried and then this will roll itself to a small tube shape and now we can use these cinnamon sticks to flavor the food items and now the uses of cinnamon has extended to beauty industry because of its advantages. Earlier this was a very expensive gift which is used to gift for the kings because of its unique flavor and health benefits. Though the original cinnamon can be found in Sri Lanka, now the production of cinnamon has spread to West Indies and South America. Cinnamon has a composition of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin etc.

Cinnamon has eugenol (3.11%), cinnamaldehyde (90.24%) and coumarin (53.46%) which are known factors to avoid acnes. Cinnamon has anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties will easily avoid acnes in the skin while fighting bacteria that affect to form pimples. Recent studies have found that consuming a lot of dairy and sugar as the main factor for occurring pimples. Drinking a cinnamon tea cup will avoid the craving for sugary food and will maintain the blood sugar level. Except drinking cinnamon tea, there are home remedies to avoid acnes and pimples while avoiding bacterial function. Mixing cinnamon powder and bee honey is the best remedy for acnes. Applying the paste in the face for about 20 minutes will be the best remedy to avoid acnes and pimples. After the application the pack has to be washed using lukewarm water. Anti-oxidants and cinnamon have a strong bond because anti-oxidant is the main reason behind a youthful and flawless skin. Anti-oxidants and Liposome in cinnamon helps blood circulation to the deep skin cells and promotes a flawless skin. This will help to avoid pimple marks on the face and will avoid pigmentation marks on the face. For this, applying a mixture of cinnamon powder with yoghurt and lemon drops will brighten the skin color.

Increased collagen production will rejuvenate the skin by increasing elasticity of the skin. Soon after applying cinnamon face packs it will automatically increase the natural collagen production and thereby increase the youthfulness. “Cinnamaldehyde” is the component in cinnamon that promotes collagen production to avoid fine line formation. Preparing a mixture of cinnamon oil, cinnamon powder and turmeric powder will exfoliate the skin while making the skin smooth. Cinnamon oil is the best medium for skin massage. The fragrance in cinnamon oil has the possibility of relaxing mind. With the cinnamon oil massage, it will improve the blood circulation in the skin and will promote skin color. Cinnamon has vitamin C which is good to protect from UV rays and has goodness to protect the moisture. The skin has the possibility of absorbing the goodness in cinnamon to the deep layers of the skin and to lock the nourishment within the skin. Cinnamon hair packs are the best packs to avoid all the hair problems. Cinnamon hair masks can be made to avoid hair loss, to maintain the moisture in the scalp and in the hair by nourishing hair follicles. This will avoid hair loss and promote regrowth of hair. A good mask can be made by mixing an egg yolk, aloe vera, cinnamon powder. This is the best remedy for hair loss. After applying this hair mask, it is important to cover the entire hair using a shower cap. You can wash your hair using a good hair shampoo and conditioner after keeping this mask for about 20-30 minutes. This hair mask will give an additional shine to the hair.

What is the specialty in Sri Lankan cinnamon? Sri Lankan cinnamon is rich with the ingredient called “Coumarin” which doesn’t do any lever damage. Therefore, Sri Lankan cinnamon is good to consume. But “too much of anything is good for nothing” Therefore, if you are taking cinnamon orally, don’t consume too much of cinnamon. Cinnamon can be used to consume in different ways. We can add cinnamon to our daily food as a spice, we can take cinnamon orally like cinnamon tea as well as we can apply cinnamon packs and cinnamon body washes, cinnamon soaps and cinnamon shampoos are available in the market now.
